HOTTEST VAUXHALL GETS SUPERCHARGED LSA V8 FOR £55K
Front end styling is aggressive, but the jury is still out
Since the launch of the Monaro more than a decade ago, we’ve been treated to a stream of imported and re-badged Aussie muscle. The latest outback terrorist to make it to the UK is the new VXR8 GTS, and the best news of all is that Vauxhall have cranked up the power even further!
Though the new car’s looks are a little awkward to say the least, you can’t argue that its supercharged LSA V8 is a true thing of beauty. This lump is identical to the one used in the Chevy Camaro ZL1 and delivers 576bhp and 545lb/ft of torque – up 150bhp and 140lb/ft over the last VXR8!
Spec highlights include a chargecooler, separate gearbox and diff cooling systems, and, our favourite item – that Eaton 4-lobe rotor supercharger. That lot ensures the VXR8 GTS can complete the 0-60 dash in 4.9 seconds and go on to a limited 155mph, though we can’t help but wonder just how quick it’d go if un-restricted! The cost of the most powerful production car to ever escape Australia? £55,000 – a cool £20k less than its Germanic rivals. Strewth.
