After prising the keys off BMW, my elation was replaced by trepidation. What the hell are you supposed to do to make this machine better? Well, it’s only after putting the bike back to stock that I’ve realised what the bike needs. The shove the Austin Racing kit gave the BMW all over the range is incredible – but it was the crispness of those horses being delivered that really set the bike apart from stock. The weight loss peps the handling up, but this also focusses attention on the suspension, that needs a little attention. It’s fine 95 per cent of the time, but it feel all too Japanese-like right at the edge – when I’m striving for Italian...
