With so many one-piece leathers to choose from, we thought we’d get together ten of our favourites, pricey and otherwise, just for you
SHOULDERS Unless the leathers you’re looking at were made in the bad old days, they should have armour in the shoulders, and maybe some natty ornamental coverings, like so. | ARMOUR Even the cheapest ‘tat’ comes with body armour and, yes, that includes anything from Lidl! Luckily, none of the following would we tag with the ‘tat’ label, and all of the armour is tippety-top-notch! | STRETCH-0-MATIC One-piece suits are filled with stetch panels these days, for comfort and ease of use when you’re hanging off all over your bike. It’d be nice if they could think of something to protect our balls! | POWER RANGER? There’s no accounting for taste, or else how do you explain all of Al’s ‘colourful’ leathers? Most manufacturers do black-only still, but most also get out the stencils!
Unless you live in a country where full leathers are either too expensive or a huge fashion faux pas, there’s always an excuse to have a set hanging in the wardrobe. Wanging on some jeans to ‘pop’ to the shops is all well and good, right until something untoward happens. It can, and does, as we here have discovered ourselves more times than we care to remember. For long summer trips, as well as trackdays, a nice one-piece is a must – and these are ten of the best you can buy.
The Meteor hails directly from Ixon’s MotoGP experience, currently being crashed in by Colin Edwards, among others. It has a racing collar, flex leather on the arm holes, over knees and bum. It has a vented hump, and is constructed using a mix of cow and kangaroo leather. There is also the option of a race body under-suit, too, should you so wish. Top French kit!

Becoming more popular in BSB, and with you guys, Arc-On offers top-spec’ protection at smart prices. This suit, for example, can be fully tailor made for just an extra £100. Arc-On gives you up to 1.4mm thick leather, and Stingray skin in specific areas, too. Bespoke Forcefield CE approved armour sits in the pointy bits, while titanium slide aids compliment R&G knee-sliders.
DAINESE AERO EVO P
The Aero EVO P is one of Dainese’s best suits, and features composite protectors certified to EN standards, including injected shoulders with aluminium inserts. It’s made from D-Skin leather, and has Nanofeel liners. Also available is the D-Air Racing, which is £2,499.99, and has the same airbag system that saves Rossi’s arse while binning his Ducati on a regular basis, while being half the price of rivals.
SPIDI TRACK WIND PRO
This stunning Spidi suit comes in at a very good price, yet is top drawer. It’s mostly cowhide leather, up to 1.3mm in thickness, and features biomechanical armour everywhere you need it. There’s also the option of adding a drinking system in the hump, which can come in handy on long track sessions, or journeys. Additionally, it can be tailor made just for you, check out Motogear’s website or www.Spidi.it for more details as we can’t do it justice here!

ALPINESTARS RACING REPLICA
The Racing Replica is the daddy of all Astars’ suits, especially as it can be outfitted with their Tech Air airbag system, although that will add a couple of grand on top of the already steep asking price. Still, quality costs, and even without Tech Air it’s a brilliant suit, with fully certified protection, removable and washable everything, and the knowledge this was born from years of top level racing action. That alone can make you feel safer – and go faster?

RST TRACTECH EVO
Sitting pretty, price-wise, between the Richa and Spada suits is RST’s new TracTech EVO. Made from up to 1.2mm premium grade cowhide, it’s double and triple stitched to avoid bursting. CE approved Contour armour graces knees and so forth, while the race hump is aerodynamically formed, and the knee-sliders are dual-compound.
SPYKE BLASTER EVO
The Blaster, like most others, uses up to 1.3mm thick (but also water-repellent) leather in construction. It’s fitted with CE armour and TPU shells in the shoulders, knees, elbows and anywhere else that might make you go ‘ouch’. It features an aerodynamic speed-hump, comes with sliders and a removable and washable liner.
Ensuring those with little dollar don’t miss out, here’s another sub £300 suit from Richa. It’s made from full-grain cowhide, with pre-curved arms and legs. It utilises elasticated stretch panels for extra comfort, and fully CE approved armour in the knees, shoulders and elbows. Sliders and a race hump complete the ensemble.
The Predator is a brilliant, relatively cheap track suit, and we know this from experience. Fagan has crashed at eye-watering speeds in one (more than once) and lauded their protective abilities. Leather is up to 1.4mm thick, the CE approved armour is dense and effective while the knees, shoulders and elbows are further reinforced. At this price, you can’t go wrong.
FURYGAN FRS PRIME
The Prime bucks a trend by using full-grain leather up to 1.4mm in thickness. It has Kevlar reinforcement in the bum and hips to delay heat-transmission, and uses homolgated protection everywhere essential. The hump is removable, while the elbows have thermoformed external shells, and the lining is hypoallergenic.
