RESTYLED YZ125/250 PLASTIC $229.99

Adam Booth

This is a very cool and simple way to make your 2003–2012 YZ125/250 two-stroke look modern. The kit includes a new style front fender, rear fender, radiator covers, side panels and front number plate. It comes in blue, white or black (or even blue with a white rear fender) without any graphics, but UFO makes the graphics you see here and they went on smooth and easy. The plastic kit looks like a current Yamaha four-stroke but isn’t exactly the same, so you have to specify that you have the UFO Restyled plastic when ordering graphics and preprinted backgrounds. Most graphic companies have the proper cuts to match the UFO plastic. I had the old stock plastic off and the UFO plastic on in just about 20 minutes without a hitch. Is it possible that having a bike that looks five years newer and way cooler made me a faster rider? It sure felt like it, and the number of riders who walked up and asked if it was a 2013 YZ125 was impressive.

I didn’t notice any difference in feel between the stock plastic and the UFO plastic when riding, and after a couple months of getting dirty and washing repeatedly, the UFO still looks good. With different sized riders we didn’t hear any complaints about hooking the plastic with boots, but that’s not to say it isn’t possible. The UFO rear fender actually feels stiffer than the stock one, which is noticeable when lifting by the rear fender to place it on a stand. Older blue YZ plastic used to be prone to white creases if flexed too far, a problem that has almost completely gone away in recent years. The UFO blue plastic is more prone to the white crease after a hard flexing, more so than the stock plastic we removed. The YZ125 and YZ250 are great bikes, but the aesthetics haven’t changed since 2005, making them look out of date and flat old to some riders. This is a way to have an older bike that looks amazing for only $229.99. UFO is also making Restyled plastic for other makes and models, so hit them up if you have an older bike you want to make look like a 2013 model.
