Pick a Pair

Kyosho DSlot43 Porsche 917K

Joe Kelly Jr.

1:43 | $50 each

The recent debut of Kyosho’s DSlot43 racing platform and track sets is still rippling through the scale racing community, and the lineup seems to grow larger by the day. This pair of Porsche 917K (“K” for “kurz”, for short) racers is another example of how enticing this middle scale is, both on the track and on display. Elford and LaRousse’s Martini-liveried No. 3 car from Sebring ’71, and its companion release, the Atwood/Herman 917K, the vehicle that took Le Mans in 1970, are perfectly shaped, accurately decorated, and an absolute hoot to tool around a track, especially if your trigger finger is used to larger scales. With strong motors, spring-loaded carriages and adjustable neo magnets, these things don’t just accelerate, they lunge out of the corners; out-of-the-box-true wheels and sticky tires mean virtually zero prep, and snap-off bodies mean swapping shells takes seconds ... literally. Even better: Kyosho recently announced a development partnership with one of 1:43’s giants — Spark — just in time for cooler climes and more indoor fun.
