File this under “wish-I-thought-of-that”: a rack-top bag that houses an insulated main compartment, plus a battery-powered speaker system on the side. It’s a one-stop problem solver for your bike picnic adventures.
Beverages stay cool in the 560cu.in. insulated area, which can fit up to eight cans — bottles are too tall and have to rest on their sides. On one side is a zippered storage pouch, and on the other is the removable speaker system that runs on AA batteries and can plug into anything with a standard headphone jack. On top is a bungee for your picnic blanket. The Funk Trunk even comes with a removable shoulder strap for non-pedal-powered picnics.
It secures to your bike rack with two Velcro straps and stays put unless you get really rowdy. The audio quality coming from the two speakers is adequate — this is no hi-fi system — and it’s loud enough to hear while you’re riding.
The $130 price might be a bit hard to swallow for some, but think about it this way: no one needs this bag, but rides are a lot more fun when you have one. Made in Vietnam. www.bontrager.com
