Cadillac XTS

An all-new Cadillac flagship.

The XTS replaces the DTS and STS sedans in the Cadillac lineup. With those aged models out of the picture, the XTS takes up residence as Cadillac’s range-topping sedan. The XTS rides on a stretched version of the Epsilon II platform that underpins the Chevrolet Malibu. Only one engine and transmission are offered: the same 3.6-liter V-6 found elsewhere in GM’s lineup mated to a six-speed automatic. The refined and powerful V-6 makes 304 hp in the XTS. As on the DTS that it replaces, front-wheel drive is standard, and as on the STS, all-wheel drive is an available option. Cadillac’s CUE infotainment system is the XTS’s trump card over its competition. This new system uses a set of LCDs and touch-capacitive sensors for inputs to the radio, navigation, and climate control systems. Inside, the XTS rivals more expensive models from the German and Japanese automakers with sumptuous leather, wood, and metal appointments. It is also quite roomy, offering interior space comparable to that of full-size luxury sedans but in a more efficient package. In addition, the XTS boasts 18.0 cubic feet of trunk space, exceeding the capacity of many of its full-size competitors. The XTS has a full complement of high-tech safety features, including lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, and blind-spot monitoring.

new for 2013

The XTS is an all-new car for 2013. It sits atop Cadillac’s range of sharply designed sedans and is roughly the size of the old DTS it replaces. The XTS was the first car to receive the brand’s new CUE (Cadillac User Experience) infotainment software, which uses touch-capacitive sensors and two LCDs — one on the center stack and an optional one for the gauges.

Front, side, and side curtain air bags; stability and traction control; Ultrasonic rear parking sensors; OnStar with automatic crash notification and emergency services; and a tire-pressure monitor are standard. Lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, a Safety Alert Seat, blind-zone alert, automatic braking, and adaptive cruise control are optional.
